Let me first start this post by saying that I am making a conscious effort to refer to practitioners differently, but that I often find myself falling into the trap of referring to myself and others, who make a living as experts in communication, as communicators.

The other day, I was asked to contribute a chapter to a global communication manual by my professional association. I was honoured to be asked and quickly said yes. Later that night, I noticed some interesting posts on twitter that fell into two camps:

I've always been a big believer in life-long learning and investing in myself. From making the decision to pay for my own IABC membership for the first few years of my career, to soaking up every book, article and opportunity that presented itself, I believe professional development (PD) has been a key contributor to my success.
