What does Canada mean to me? It isn’t perfection.

It’s the quiet decision to keep trying.
Canada has cracks. We always have. We haven’t always lived up to our values, and we continue to wrestle with our history, our differences, and our future. Acknowledging that isn’t unpatriotic, it’s necessary.

But what keeps me hopeful is that so many Canadians still believe we can do better.

We debate. We apologize. We help our neighbours. We welcome people from around the world. We learn. We stumble. We try again.

As an immigrant who has built a life, a family, and a business here, I know Canada isn’t defined by being flawless, it’s defined by our willingness to grow.

This maple leaf caught my eye because it wasn’t hanging perfectly on a tree. It was resting on cracked stone of my driveway, brilliant against an imperfect backdrop.

Maybe that’s us…not perfect, but still choosing kindness over division; community over isolation and hope over cynicism.

Still trying to be the Canada we believe we can become. Happy Canada Day. 🇨🇦❤️

A vibrant red maple leaf lies on a weathered grey stone walkway, illuminated by warm sunlight. The leaf’s rich crimson colour contrasts sharply with the textured paving stones and visible cracks between them. The long red stem extends diagonally across the image, creating a simple yet striking composition that evokes themes of resilience, beauty, and Canada.
